Acceptance Speech Highlights from the 19th Annual SAG Awards

Although the SAG Awards was more than a week ago, we can't help but revisit the honorees' amazing and even touching acceptance speeches. This week, we will be highlighting two honorees every day. So check back for more of our favorite moments from Award night!

What an amazing night! Dick Van Dyke was presented with the union's highest honor, the 49th Annual Life Achievement Award, following a filmed tribute introduced and narrated by Alec Baldwin.

Daniel Day-Lewis, Anne Hathaway, Tommy Lee Jones and Jennifer Lawrence were honored with individual awards for performances in motion pictures, and Alec Baldwin, Bryan Cranston, Kevin Costner, Claire Danes, Tina Fey and Julianne Moore were honored with individual awards for performances in television.

Outstanding performances by a motion picture cast went to "Argo," while the Actors for television drama and comedy ensemble went to "Downton Abbey" and "Modern Family."

During the red carpet pre-show, "Skyfall" and "Game of Thrones" were awarded honors for outstanding action performances by a stunt ensemble.

Dick Van Dyke annouced as 49th SAG Life Achievement Award Recipient

"Congratulations" are in order!

This morning SAG-AFTRA announced that the SAG Life Achievement Award, the union's highest accolade, which honors career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment, will be given to none other than perennial entertainer Dick Van Dyke.

Van Dyke is best known for his roles in 'Bye Bye Birdie', 'The Dick Van Dyke Show' and 'Mary Poppins.' Now 86, he's garnered five Emmys®, a Tony® Award and a Grammy® in his nearly 60-year career.

Off-set, he has tirelessly volunteered his time to The Midnight Mission, a Los Angeles homeless shelter, as well as to raising funds for music and art programs in public schools. In 1967, he became a spokesperson for the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation after losing a granddaughter to the disease. More recently, in 2010, he was named the first spokesperson for the Cell Therapy Foundation. 

Those of you who are fans of the SAG Awards will know that Mr. Van Dyke is no stranger to the show. He presented the 43rd SAG Life Achievement Award to his 'Mary Poppins' costar Julie Andrews in 2007 at the 13th SAG Awards, where he met his current bride Arlene Silver. This past year, he was called on  again—this time by Mary Tyler Moore—to present his on-screen 'wife' with the 48th SAG Life Achievement Award at the 18th SAG Awards."
